Learn about Oakville’s draft Community Planning Permit By-law and related planning initiatives
The Town of Oakville invites residents to a public open house on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall to learn more about the proposed Community Planning Permit System (CPPS). This streamlined approach aims to simplify and accelerate development approvals. The open house will also provide updates on other related planning initiatives.
What’s being presented:
Midtown Oakville: Draft Community Planning Permit By-law
This draft by-law puts into action the Council-approved policies from Official Plan Amendment 70 (OPA 70), focused on Midtown Oakville. It sets out the rules, processes, and overall framework for the areas designated as a Community Planning Permit Area.
Bronte Village: Draft Official Plan Amendment and Community Planning Permit By-law
Staff are also working to introduce a Community Planning Permit System in Bronte Village. This includes preparing an Official Plan Amendment to enable the system and define the area. A draft by-law is also being developed to guide future development in Bronte Village, aligned with the Livable Oakville Plan and the broader CPPS framework.
An online public survey for the draft by-law will be available soon to gather feedback.
Inclusionary Zoning: Proposed Official Plan Amendment
The Town is proposing to enable inclusionary zoning within Protected Major Transit Station Areas, namely, Midtown Oakville and Bronte GO. If approved, this would enable the Town to pass zoning or CPP By-laws that require affordable housing in new residential development. The draft CPP by-law includes implementing provisions that would apply to Midtown Oakville.
At the open house, you can:
- Review draft materials, including the Official Plan Amendments and CPPS by-laws
- Speak with project teams
- Share your feedback
Community members are also encouraged to attend the Planning and Development Council Meeting on Monday, November 3, 2025, where staff will present updates and recommendations related to these planning initiatives.
