Teen takeovers, try-it sessions, mural unveilings and more!
The Town of Oakville, in partnership with the Oakville Youth Action Committee (OYAC), Oakville Fire Department, and Oakville Public Library (OPL), is proud to celebrate National Youth Week from May 1 to 7, 2025 with seven days of free fun, interactive and educational opportunities for youth ages 13 to 17.
This exciting week-long celebration recognizes the talents, contributions and energy of Oakville’s youth through engaging activities designed to inspire creativity, build community and encourage active living.
Thursday, May 1
- Swim to Survive Try-it, 3-4 p.m. at Glen Abbey Community Centre Pool
A fun and important introduction to water safety skills for youth. No experience necessary! - Youth Mural Unveiling, 6-7 p.m. at River Oaks Community Centre, Room D
Celebrate youth creativity and the unveiling of a new community mural created by local young artists.
Friday, May 2
- Teen Library Takeover, 3-4 p.m. at OPL White Oaks Branch
Explore tech, gaming and hands-on activities in a space just for teens. - The Drop – Glow in the Dark Sports Party with Pizza, 5-9:30 p.m. at Glen Abbey Community Centre Gym
A high-energy night of glowing games, music and pizza.
Saturday, May 3
- Youth Takeover at QEPCCC, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre
Join us for art, games and interactive fun—including an Oakville Fire Department obstacle course challenge!
Sunday, May 4
- Youth Skate with DJ Ghost, 2-4 p.m. at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, Rink 1
Lace up and hit the ice with live music and a party vibe. Skate rentals will be free for this event.
Monday, May 5
- Intergenerational Mural Unveiling & Artist Meet and Greet, 4-5 p.m. at Trafalgar Park Community Centre
Discover a mural created by youth and adults 50+, shaped by shared stories and creativity.
Tuesday, May 6
- Junior Lifeguard Club Try-it, 6-7 p.m. at Glen Abbey Community Centre Pool
Curious about lifeguarding? Try out some key skills and learn how you can get involved.
Wednesday, May 7
- LibraryFEST, 3:30-6:30 p.m. at OPL Iroquois Ridge Branch
Wrap up Youth Week with a celebration of learning, discovery and fun at your local library. - So You Think You Can Sing: Youth Karaoke!, 4:30–6:30 p.m. – Oakville Trafalgar Community Centre
Take the stage, cheer on your friends, and show off your star power in this youth karaoke night. - Oakville Youth Awards (by invitation only)
Sponsored by the Halton Muslim Youth Association in partnership with OYAC this event will celebrate 100+ youth changemakers. Watch the celebration live online at 7 p.m.
In addition to these special events, all drop-in programs from May 1 to 7 are free for youth ages 13 to 17. Youth ages 14 to 17 can also access fitness centre drop-ins at no cost. As space is limited for some activities, participants are encouraged to reserve their spot in advance through their Recreation and Culture account.
