The Town of Oakville has taken legal action regarding the demolition of a designated heritage home at 1475 Lakeshore Road East and removal of a mature tree without the necessary permits or authority under various provincial legislation and municipal regulations.
The Town has filed the following charges with the Ontario Court of Justice which are scheduled for first appearance on September 17, 2025 at the Halton Court Services Provincial Offences Office in Burlington.
- Demolition of a building without a building permit.
- Failure to comply with an order.
- Demolition of a designated heritage property without municipal consent.
- Destruction of a tree without a permit.

Background
- In late July 2025, Town staff were made aware of activity taking place at the property resulting in inspections and orders issued by the Town’s Building department requiring all demolition activity to cease immediately.
- As a result of the Town’s investigation, charges have been filed with the Ontario Court of Justice.
- The Town of Oakville’s By-law 1991-48 designated the property known as 1475 Lakeshore Road East as a property of historical and architectural value and interest pursuant to the Ontario Heritage Act.
- The Town of Oakville’s Private Tree Protection By-law regulates the injury or destruction of trees on private property.
