Notice of intention to designate 3160 Meadowridge Drive

Friday, October 02, 2026

On September 28, 2026, Oakville Town Council resolved to pass a Notice of Intention to Designate the following property under Section 29 of the Ontario Heritage Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. O.18, as amended, as a property of cultural heritage value and interest:

Meadowridge Park
3160 Meadowridge Drive
Plan M1288 Block 286; Oakville
PIN: 24930-2696 and 24930-3294

Description of property

The property at 3160 Meadowridge Drive is located on the north side of Wheat Boom Drive, east of John McKay Boulevard and west of Meadowridge Drive in north Oakville. The property contains a shade structure constructed out of remnants of the historic Welsman barn, previously located at 1297 Dundas Street East.

Statement of cultural heritage value or interest

Design and physical value

Meadowridge Park is considered to have cultural heritage value for the salvaged materials used in the construction of the shade structure. The structure uses elements from a representative example of a bank barn built with some older materials from a late 19th century barn. The barn had a gambrel roof with wood upper walls. The lower walls of the barn were constructed of concrete blocks made to look like stone. The barn was built as a bank barn. These barns were typically built into the side of a hill or bank, to allow access to both the animals on the lower level and to the hay, straw and grain storage on the upper level. The land was naturally flat on this farm, so the Welsmans built a bank of concrete and wood and covered it with dirt. The materials salvaged from this barn and used in the shade structure include barn boards, hand-hewn and sawn beams, and a metal pulley.

Historical and associative value

The salvaged materials in the shade structure are considered to have historical and associative value because they are directly associated with the long-standing farm on the property and its association with agricultural history and development in Trafalgar Township.

Description of heritage attributes

Key attributes of the property which exhibit the cultural heritage value of the Meadowridge Park include the following attributes, as they relate to the shade structure:

  • Barn board cladding used on the roof, sides, and posts of the shade structure;
  • Hand-hewn and sawn beams used in the shade structure; and
  • Metal pulley salvaged from the former Welsman barn.
