At this time (July 17, 2026), the Town of Oakville is aware that lands may be under consideration by a proponent for a data centre.
However, no development application has been submitted to the Town. As a result, the statutory public planning process has not commenced.
Should a development application be submitted, it will be subject to the Town’s applicable review process under the Planning Act and related municipal requirements. This process typically includes a review of the proposal and any supporting studies by Town staff, circulation of the application to relevant agencies, utilities, and service providers for technical review and comments, and the preparation of a staff recommendation for Town Council’s consideration.
Matters within the Town’s review authority including noise, traffic, servicing and other planning considerations will be evaluated through this process.
No statutory public meeting has been held to date as no application has been submitted.
That said, the Town of Oakville encourages proponents to hold a public information meeting in advance of submitting a development application to give residents an early opportunity to learn about and comment on a proposal. While these meetings are not required under provincial legislation they are considered good practice.
If a development application is received by the Town, information about the application, including details on how the public can provide feedback, will be posted on the Town's website under Planning Public Notices. Opportunities for public input include a statutory public meeting which would form part of the Town’s formal planning review process, consistent with the requirements of the Planning Act.
