Use of Town Vehicles, Equipment and Facility Resource(s) Policy

Policy statement

The Corporation of the Town of Oakville (town) provides employees and other authorized users with access to town vehicles, equipment and facility resources (town resource(s)) for operational purposes to be used in an efficient, effective, safe, environmentally conscious, ethical and lawful manner, and in accordance with the town’s policies and procedures.

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to:

  • protect the interests of both the town and the users by providing standards by which questions of acceptable use of town resource(s) use may be gauged;
  • protect the safety and well-being of employees;
  • protect the town’s reputation and ensure appropriate use of resource(s); and
  • establish the town’s expectation regarding acceptable use of town resource(s), including environmental sustainability.

The town will not be responsible for any inappropriate use of town resource(s).  Any use of the town’s resource(s) that breaches this policy may result in disciplinary action up to and including dismissal from employment.

Scope

This policy applies to all users of town resource(s) including but not limited to, elected officials, employees, contractors, consultants, volunteers, students and interns and any other individual with access to and use of such.

Town resource(s) for the purpose of this policy includes, but are not limited to, all town vehicles, equipment and facility resource(s) owned, leased, rented, acquired, managed or otherwise under the control by the town.
