A free community event to help residents improve their water safety awareness and confidence in and around water.

Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 4 to 8:30 p.m. at Lions Pool, 159 Felan Avenue

As part of National Drowning Prevention Week (July 19–25), this free community event features swimming, water safety demonstrations and hands-on activities designed to help residents of all ages build confidence in and around the water.

Whether you're a parent, swimmer, caregiver or community member, there's something for everyone to enjoy while learning important drowning prevention skills.

Bring your family, meet community partners, enjoy free swimming and learn valuable water safety skills.

Admission is free. Everyone is welcome.

Event highlights

Swim to Survive - Family session

Kick off the evening by learning essential survival skills that can help save lives in a water emergency.

Public swimming sessions

Enjoy recreational swimming at Lions Pool throughout the evening. Three public swimming sessions will be offered, with educational water safety demonstrations between each session.

Interactive community booths

Visit educational and interactive booths, located on the basketball court next to the pool, featuring:

  • Water safety information and resources
  • Family-friendly activities and games
  • Community partners and local organizations
  • Aquatic program information
  • Prizes, giveaways and promotional items

Touch-a-Truck with Oakville Fire

Meet members of Oakville Fire and explore emergency vehicles and equipment while learning about water and boating safety.

Fun challenges and activities

Participate in engaging activities throughout the evening, including:

  • Water Safety Pledge
  • Educational contests
  • Family-friendly games

Swimsuit safety challenge

Did you know that swimsuit colour can affect how visible a swimmer is in the water? Test different swimsuit colours, learn which colours are easiest to spot and discover how visibility can play an important role in water safety.

Drowning is preventable. National Drowning Prevention Week encourages Canadians to learn the knowledge and skills needed to stay safe in and around the water.
