Unmarked burial sites of children at former residential schools dismays Oakville

Thursday, June 24, 2021

Unmarked burials of hundreds of childrens’ remains at former residential schools across Canada continues to dismay us on Oakville Town Council and our town’s residents.

Town of Oakville flags will fly at half mast in recognition of the latest discovery of yet more Indigenous lives lost and buried with such callous disrespect.

We extend our condolences to the Indigenous community and all others experiencing sorrow and grief at this latest discovery.

Council and I are resolved to continue our commitment to the path of Truth and Reconciliation.

Our community values our relationship with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, the traditional custodians of the treaty lands on which Oakville exists. As we continue to strive towards Truth and Reconciliation we are reminded that our diversity and inclusivity help us make and keep Oakville Canada’s most livable town.
