Community centres and arenas open Monday, November 13 pending ratification by union

Early this morning, the Town of Oakville and CUPE Local 136, the union representing our outside workers and facility operators, reached a tentative agreement. The agreement still needs to be ratified by the union and Oakville Town Council in the coming days.

CUPE 136 has scheduled their ratification vote for this Saturday, November 11. If ratified by the union membership, community centres and arenas will resume full service on Monday, November 13. Recreation and Culture customers will receive a direct email communication with details on when drop-in program online registration will be available.  In addition, loose leaf collection would resume on residential roads on Monday and leash free dog parks would open around noon on Sunday.

More details of the agreement will be shared following ratification.

Quote

“I am pleased that the bargaining teams were able to reach a tentative agreement. I want to thank both teams for their considerable effort that led to this positive outcome for our staff and community. I also want to thank our residents for your ongoing patience throughout the labour disruption. I know it has not been easy for you or your family. We look forward to resuming our services and welcoming you back into our facilities very soon.”
