Town of Oakville seeks input on the Urban Mobility and Transportation Strategy

Thursday, June 01, 2023

Residents invited to a Public Open House on June 22, 2023, to learn more

To prepare for future growth and address the evolving mobility needs of the community, the town is establishing a comprehensive transportation plan in two stages of work – through the Urban Mobility and Transportation Strategy (UMTS) and an update to the town’s Transportation Master Plan (TMP).

The UMTS, first presented to Council at the February 15, 2022 Special Planning and Development Council meeting, is a policy framework document to guide the linkage between land use and transportation. Town staff are now conducting public consultation to educate the community about the UMTS, its findings and recommendations, and provide residents with the opportunity to share their valuable feedback. Residents are encouraged to attend the open house to learn more.

Open House details

Thursday, June 22, 2023, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Road
South Atrium

Members of the public can also review the UTMS policy document on oakville.ca and provide input to the town by email before August 13, 2023. Comments can be sent to Eric Chan, manager, Transportation Planning at eric.chan@oakville.ca. A staff report including a summary of public feedback gathered through the consultation process will go forward to Council this fall to help inform Council on the strategy for approval.

Transportation Master Plan update

Guided through direction from the UMTS framework and Council, the town’s Transportation Master Plan update will establish a multi-modal plan with policies, programs and infrastructure improvements to enhance mobility for all road users, with a focus on improvements to support more sustainable modes of travel such as walking, cycling and transit. Town staff are in the initial stages of work for the TMP update process and engagement opportunities will take place later this year and throughout the duration of the project to gather public input. Visit the Transportation Master Plan page to learn more.
