Stormwater infrastructure funding supports responsible growth and long-term resilience

The Town of Oakville has received funding of $3,298,687 from the Government of Ontario to support the Sixth Line Stormwater Pipe project. This funding is being provided through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (MHIP-HEWSF). The total cost of the project is roughly $4.5 million, and the province’s investment will cover approximately 73 per cent of the expenses.

As part of the larger Sixth Line Widening project, a total of 2,385 metres of new storm sewer infrastructure will be installed to support future development and improve how stormwater is managed. The system will carry heavy rainwater from major storms to a stormwater facility where it can be safely managed.

The new section will improve drainage for the area along Sixth Line, north of Dundas Street. The project is expected to support approximately 340 new homes in the surrounding community, including an estimated 278 homes planned for construction in 2026.

The Sixth Line Stormwater Pipe project will ensure the Town of Oakville has access to better stormwater infrastructure to support residents and businesses for years to come, while also enabling approximately 340 new homes in the community.”
