Help shape Oakville’s first-ever Community Planning Permit By-law and share your thoughts on Urban Design Guidelines for Midtown

Wednesday, May 21, 2025

The Town of Oakville is inviting residents to an open house on June 5, 2025, to discuss important initiatives that will help move Midtown Oakville forward. Members of the public are encouraged to participate in discussions about key directions that will help shape the first-ever made-in-Oakville Community Planning Permit By-law (CPP By-law) for Midtown Oakville and the Urban Design Guidelines that will inform the implementation of the Midtown Oakville Official Plan policies. This open house will take place in the South Atrium of Town Hall from from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Midtown Oakville is located south of the QEW/Highway 403 and extends from Sixteen Mile Creek to Chartwell Road to Cornwall Road. It is the Town’s primary strategic growth area and hosts Oakville GO and VIA train stations, as well as Oakville Transit and GO Transit buses. Through numerous years of public engagement, this area is planned to transition from its current state of underutilized commercial and employment land to a vibrant mixed-use transit-oriented community where people will come to live, work and play.

Once fully implemented, the CPP By-law will streamline the development approval process allowing for a single development permit application by one approval authority, significantly reducing both time and complexity in the process. In addition, the accompanying Urban Design Guidelines for Midtown Oakville will provide essential support in the evaluation of development proposals, ensuring that future buildings and public spaces align with the vision articulated in the Town’s Official Plan.

During the open house, members of the public will have the chance to review information displayed on panel boards that highlight key themes associated with the CPP By-law and Urban Design Guidelines. Town staff will be available to answer questions, discuss options and gather valuable feedback from the community that will help identify preferred options for Town Council’s future consideration.

Anyone who cannot attend the open house will still have an opportunity to share their insights by submitting feedback through an online questionnaire which will be available following the meeting until June 12, 2025.

The work leading up to this open house follows the adoption of new policies for Midtown Oakville on February 18, 2025, including the introduction of the Community Planning Permit System. These policies have been forwarded to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing for approval, marking a significant step in the redevelopment process for this area.
