Notice of proposed new by-law to prohibit the use of parking boots or vehicle immobilization devices on vehicles parked on private and municipal property in Oakville

Friday, May 09, 2025

On Monday, May 26, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., Oakville Town Council will consider a new by-law to prohibit the use of devices that keep vehicles from moving while parked, such as parking boots or wheel clamps, on private and municipal property without the vehicle owner’s consent. The phrase “without the vehicle owner’s consent” is included in the by-law to distinguish the unauthorized use of these devices from cases where the vehicle owner may use such a device to prevent theft.

If the proposed Immobilization Prohibition By-law 2025-097 is approved and passed by Council, and once it is in effect, the use of these devices without the vehicle owner’s consent will not be permitted in Oakville.

The Council meeting agenda including a copy of the related report and proposed by-law is expected to be available for review on May 16, 2025. For information on how to delegate and address Council on this matter, please visit our Delegations and Presentations page.
