Town of Oakville and Oakville Youth Action Committee launch fourth annual Youth Mural Project

The Town of Oakville, in partnership with the Oakville Youth Action Committee (OYAC), is inviting creative, curious, and community minded teens to help bring a bold new mural to life. This fall, the Youth Mural Project returns to Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, giving young artists a chance to make their mark and add colour to one of Oakville’s busiest community hubs.

Led by local artist Sima Naseem, the project will mentor 12 youth artists aged 13 to 17 as they design and paint a large scale indoor mural celebrating imagination, teamwork, and the energy of Oakville’s youth community.

This free program offers participants the chance to earn 42 volunteer hours while taking part in hands on art workshops and receiving guidance from a professional artist. Youth will help create a lasting public artwork that reflects their creativity and connection to the community. No previous art experience is required, just curiosity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn.

Now in its fourth year, the Youth Mural Project has transformed spaces at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (2024), River Oaks Community Centre (2025), and Iroquois Ridge Community Centre (2026) leaving behind powerful visual legacies created by Oakville youth.

Interested youth can apply online until Monday, August 31, 2026.

Looking to get involved with the OYAC? The Town is accepting applications until August 10, 2026 for youth between ages 13 and 18. To learn more and explore other programs and services for youth, visit the Town’s Oakville Youth Action Committee page.
