Last night, Oakville celebrated its outstanding community champions at the Community Spirit Awards held at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre. These awards, now in their 24th year, recognize nominees for their leadership, acts of kindness, and meaningful contributions that help make Oakville a vibrant and welcoming community.
2026 Community Spirit Award recipients
- Janet Godber – Arts, Culture and Heritage Award, sponsored by Creative Arts Financial, a division of FirstOntario Credit Union
- Leo Yu Cheng – Climate Action Award, sponsored by JNE Landscaping and Maintenance
- Stephen Dankowich – Climate Action Award, sponsored by JNE Landscaping and Maintenance
- Judy Bindon – Good Neighbour Award, sponsored by Chartwell Retirement Residences
- Hui Xin – Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility Award, sponsored by Access Abilities
- Nancy Hardcastle – Inspiration Award, sponsored by RBC Royal Bank
- Ahana Virmani – Leadership and Innovation Award, sponsored by FirstOntario Credit Union
This year’s awards were designed by Megan Hazen, a local acrylic painter who incorporates wood burning techniques to add depth and texture to her work. Each recipient received a unique, handcrafted piece created for the awards.
