A framework to guide the long-term transformation of Bronte Harbour

At last night’s meeting, Town Council endorsed the proposed Bronte Waterfront Strategy, a comprehensive community-informed framework to guide the long-term investment and improvements to public lands in and around Bronte Harbour.

The endorsed strategy sets out a clear and coordinated long-term vision for improving and bringing more activity to the Bronte Waterfront. It gives policy direction on how to improve public access, make the area easier to move through, and support year-round use, while protecting the environment, preserving cultural heritage, and keeping harbour and boating operations running smoothly. The strategy also helps staff plan, prioritize, and coordinate future waterfront projects in line with Council’s priorities.

Development of the strategy began in July 2025 over nine months and was shaped by extensive public engagement including three public meetings, an online questionnaire with more than 450 responses, one-on-one conversations, pop-up engagement opportunities and consultation with residents, businesses and community organizations.

Endorsement of the strategy does not commit funding to future individual projects. All initiatives outlined in the plan will be brought forward for Council consideration through the annual capital budget process.

Where appropriate, implementation costs may be partially offset through external funding sources such as provincial or federal government grants, sponsorships, and community or partnership opportunities.

A shortlist of key projects includes:

Short term

  • Bronte Inner Harbour promenade
  • Metro Marine building redevelopment
  • Playground
  • Skating loop
  • Enhanced seating at the pavilion
  • Site furnishing and wayfinding signage.

Medium term

  • Flexible plaza space (adjacent Metro Marine)
  • Urban beach
  • Bronte Creek west side boardwalk
  • Walkway under Lakeshore Road West bridge

Long term

  • Bronte Bluffs new parkland (lake filling)
  • West River Street improvements
