Every year on November 11, Oakville residents join Canadians across the country in pausing for a moment of silence to remember and honour those who served, and continue to serve, our country during times of war, conflict, and peace. Through their service and sacrifice, they have helped protect the peace and freedoms we enjoy today.
We pay tribute to members of the Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP who served to defend our values and freedoms in the past, and we honour those who continue to serve our country today.
There are many ways to participate in the act of remembrance, including local ceremonies, and through the new Veterans Commemorative Banner Program.

Veterans Commemorative Banner Program
This year, the Town, in collaboration with Royal Canadian Legion Branches 114 and 486, introduced the Veterans Commemorative Banner Program to honour the service and sacrifices of Canada’s Veterans and complement the Town’s existing commemorative initiatives.
The program includes two phases. The first phase of the program will feature 12 general commemorative banners displaying a Remembrance message and poppy design, installed near Oakville’s three cenotaph and memorial locations. With the support of the Bronte Village, Kerr Village, and Downtown Oakville Business Improvement Areas (BIAs), the program has expanded to include an additional 35 remembrance banners displayed throughout these communities and surrounding neighbourhoods.
The second phase of the program will include customized banners that recognize Veterans with connections to the Oakville community. Additional information, including eligibility and application details, will be available in early 2027.
Learn more about the program on the Veteran's Memorials webpage.
Other ways to recognize Remembrance Day
If you are unable to attend these ceremonies in person, you can still participate in Remembrance Day by wearing a poppy or observing two minutes of silence at 11 a.m. on November 11.
