Learn how Oakville is putting sustainable development into practice

The Town of Oakville continues to support sustainable development as the community grows, helping ensure new development reflects environmental responsibility, long-term resilience and a high quality of life.

Town policies help guide planning and design decisions, supporting energy efficiency, climate resilience and well-designed communities across Oakville.

Recent changes introduced by the Province of Ontario through Bill 23, More Homes Built Faster Act, 2022 and Bill 17, Protect Ontario by Building Faster and Smarter Act, 2025 have standardized some planning and building requirements across municipalities. While this affects how certain tools are applied, Oakville continues to support sustainable development through its policies, standards and guidelines.

The Town advances this work through clear policies, engineering standards and practical approaches. To learn more about how this is being implemented, and to see examples, visit the Town’s new Sustainable Development Practices webpage.
