Traffic Calming Projects in School Zones for 2025

Traffic calming projects being undertaken in 2025 by the town to improve road safety in school zones.

The Town of Oakville will begin implementing traffic calming measures in school zones on major collector and minor arterial roadways this summer. 

The project will include the design and implementation of traffic calming measures in five school zones: 

  1. St. Mary Catholic Elementary School on Colonel William Parkway from Dewsbury Drive to Richview Boulevard / Stockbridge Avenue
  2. Captain R Wilson Public School on Grand Oak Trail from Appalachian Drive to Lionstone Drive/Hemmford Drive
  3. Emily Carr Public School on Pine Glen Road from Postmaster Drive to Castlebrook Road
  4. Pilgrim Wood Public School on Pilgrims Way from Pineway Court/Mapleridge Crescent to Blackburn Drive
  5. Palermo Public School on Valleyridge Drive from Highvalley Road to Springforest Drive

This initiative is part of the Neighbourhood Traffic Safety Program, aimed at making school zones safer by reducing speeding in areas frequented by children and other residents.

Proposed work

The proposed scope of work includes:

  • Raised medians, raised centre median, bollards and Northbound lateral shifts for St. Mary Catholic Elementary School site
  • Raised median, raised centre median and Northbound lateral shift for Captain R. Wilson Public School site
  • Raised medians, North and South bound lateral shifts to reduce speed in both directions for Emily Carr Public School site
  • New centre medians and bollards to control speed for Pilgrim Wood Public School site
  • Speed cushions will effectively reduce operating speed for Palermo Public School

Thank you for your input on the proposed traffic calming measures design plans intended to enhance pedestrian/cyclist safety within the school zone limits.

Comments received will be reviewed for consideration during the detailed design process and summarized in a "What We Heard" report for future reference.

All feedback received will help finalize the design and implementation plan by May 2025.
