Voting in person on October 26 is just one of the ways to vote
You can vote at any voting location in your ward on voting day, October 26, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
At the voting location:
- An election official will verify your identification, as described in the Act
- You will receive your ballot in a privacy folder to help keep your vote secret and an election official will explain how to properly mark the ballot
- Go behind the privacy screen and mark an X in the box to the right of the candidate(s) of your choice for each office
- After marking the ballot, place the ballot in the secrecy folder and give it to the election official at the tabulator
During advance voting, you can vote at any of the advance voting locations townwide. Advance voting dates are October 7 to 10 and October 13 to 18. The full list of locations is available on the Where to Vote page.

If you are unavailable to vote during the election, you can have someone vote on your behalf. This is called a proxy. Students attending college or university outside of Oakville who will not be home for the election can also assign a proxy.
Proxy forms are available online and must be submitted in person by your proxy at Town Hall.
Once you have completed the Voting Proxy Form, it needs to be certified by the Clerk or designate during business hours.
Learn more on the Proxy Voting page.
If you are unable to go inside the voting location on voting day, you can request to have your ballot brought to your vehicle, outside of the building or to another area within the voting location as directed.
A friend or support person will need to go inside the voting location to let the election officials know that you require curbside voting, or you can call 905-815-6015 to speak with Elections staff and they will call the voting place on your behalf.
If you are a post-secondary student living away from home while attending school, you may be eligible to vote in both:
- The municipality where you live while attending school; and
- The municipality you consider your permanent home, if you plan to return there when your studies are complete
Students must meet voter eligibility requirements for each municipality.
Acceptable identification for student voters includes:
- document showing campus residence, issued by your post-secondary institution
- mortgage statement, lease or rental agreement for an Ontario property
- insurance policy or insurance statement showing your name and address
The Town of Oakville will provide voting opportunities at long-term care homes and retirement homes. Information will be provided to the administration of these homes and facilities.
Eligible voters who are unable to attend a voting location because of medical conditions or mobility limitations may request to vote at home. To register for this service, email elections@oakville.ca or call 905-815-6015 by October 14, 2026.
Voters will be encouraged to contact the Clerk’s department as early as possible to make a home visit appointment.
