If you are unable to vote during the election or feel uncomfortable about voting in person, you can have someone vote on your behalf, This is called a proxy.
When choosing a proxy:
- Your proxy must be an eligible to vote in the Town of Oakville. They can still cast their own ballot.
- A proxy may act for only one person unless the people they are representing are members of their own family.
- A person cannot act as a proxy for both a family member and a non-family member.
How to appoint a proxy
A proxy can be appointed between Tuesday, September 1, 2026, until Monday, October 26, 2026.
To appoint a proxy, the elector and the person you want to appoint must fill out the Appointment for Voting Proxy - Form 3.
Step one
Complete the Appointment for Voting Proxy - Form 3. Both you and the person you are appointing must complete the form.
Step two
The proxy must take the completed form to Town Hall and have it certified by the Clerk or designate. The form can be certified during business hours and an appointment is recommended.
The Voting Proxy Form must be certified by the Town Clerk before it can be used at a voting location. The proxy must provide proof of identity when the form is certified.
Additional certification hours during advance voting
A proxy form can also be certified at Town Hall during advance voting days during these times:
- October 7–10: Noon to 5 p.m.
- October 13–18: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
What your proxy needs to bring to the voting place
After the Appointment for Voting Proxy (Form 3) has been certified, your proxy can vote during Advance Voting Days or Election Day. Your proxy must bring:
- Original copy of the Appointment for Voting Proxy - Form 3 that was certified
- Proof of identity in accordance with the voter identification requirements
Deadline for appointing a proxy
All voting proxies must be appointed by 4:30 p.m. on Voting Day, Monday, October 26, 2026.
