Offices to be Elected

A municipal election is how residents choose the people who will govern their city, in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, the Town Clerk as Returning Officer conducts a municipal election. 

Municipal government makes decisions about the services you use every day. This includes roads, parks, recreation centres, transit and snow clearing. Your vote helps shape your neighbourhood and your community.

Who represents you?

Oakville Town Council is made up of elected officials who represent residents and make decisions on behalf of the city. When you vote, you will elect one Mayor for the entire Town, one Town and Regional Councillor for your ward, one Town Councillor for your ward, and a school board trustee, if applicable.

Each of Oakville’s seven wards elects two Council representatives: one Town and Regional Councillor, who serves on both Oakville Town Council and Halton Regional Council, and one Town Councillor, who serves on Oakville Town Council.

Mayor of the Town of Oakville

• Who serves as the head of Council and provides leadership on city-wide priorities and initiatives.
• One to be elected for the entire Town

Town Councillors

• Represent residents on Oakville Town Council only. 
• Help make decisions on local services. 
• One to be elected in each ward.

Town and Regional Councillors

• Represent residents on both Oakville Town Council and Halton Regional Council. 
• Focus on local ward issues and town-wide matters that affect Oakville residents. 
• One to be elected in each ward.

You will also vote for a School Board trustee, who does not sit on Town Council but is part of a school board.

• One for Wards 3 and 6 combined
• One for Ward 4
• One for Wards 5 and 7 combined

Member (Trustee) of the Halton Catholic District School Board

Three to be elected in total. 

• One for Wards 1, 2 and 3 combined
• One for Wards 4 and 7 combined
• One for Wards 5 and 6 combined

Member (Trustee) of the Conseil scolaire Viamonde (French Public School Board)

One to be elected by all voters within the geographical area of the Regional Municipality of Hamilton-Wentworth, Regional Municipality of Halton, and the County of Brant. 

Nomination forms to be filed with the City of Hamilton.

Member (Trustee) of the Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir (French Catholic School Board)

One to be elected by all voters within the Region of Halton geographic area.
