Know Before You Vote Guide

Your guide to voting in Oakville's 2026 Municipal Election

Municipal government makes decisions about the services you use every day. This includes roads, parks, recreation centres, transit and snow clearing. When you vote, you help choose the Mayor, Town Councillors, Town & Regional Councillors and School Board Trustees who make these decisions.

Your vote helps shape your neighbourhood and your community.

Here’s what you need to know to vote this October.

Eligibility

You can vote if you are:

  • at least 18 years of age
  • a Canadian citizen
  • a resident, owner or tenant of land in the Town of Oakville, or the spouse of such owner or tenant

You are entitled to vote only once even if you own or rent more than one property in the Town of Oakville.

Key dates

Advance Voting: October 7–10 and October 13–18

Election Day: Monday, October 26

Check your voter information

Make sure your name, address and school support are up to date on the voters’ list. If you have moved recently, make sure your voting information matches your current address.

Visit the Voters' List Information page to:

  • Confirm your information
  • Add your name to the list
  • Update your address

You will need a piece of acceptable identification to make the updates online.

If you need help or prefer to make changes to your information in person, contact the Town of Oakville Clerk’s Department at 905-815-6015.

You can still update your information in person when you vote with proper identification.

Receive voter card by mail

If you are on the voters’ list, you will receive a voter card by mail in September. It will have the dates and locations for when you can vote.

Didn’t receive a voter card? Don’t worry, you can still vote if you are eligible. You will need to bring identification to a voting location.

Pick a voting date and location

Vote early at any advance voting location. On Election Day (October 26), vote at any location in your ward. You may only vote once.

Visit the Where to Vote page for locations and hours.

Can't vote in person? You may be able to appoint someone to vote on your behalf using a voting proxy. Learn more on the Proxy Voting page.

  • Ontario driver’s licence
  • Ontario photo card
  • Current bank or credit card statement
  • Current utility bill

If you received your voter card by mail, bring that too.
