Review of 2024 draft rates & fees at 2024 Budget Committee meeting on October 17, 2023

The next Budget Committee meeting is on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. inside Council Chambers at Town Hall, located at 1225 Trafalgar Road. Live streaming is available on the Live Stream page or on the Town of Oakville YouTube channel.

The 2024 rates and fees will be adopted as part of the 2024 budget process and have been prepared with the Mayor’s direction to increase user fees in line with the User Fee Policy. The draft 2024 rates and fees will be available for review on Friday, October 6, on the Rates and Fees page.

At this meeting, the Budget Committee will discuss:
  • Proposed changes to existing fees (transit fares, recreation program fees, building and planning permit fees, parking rates, etc.)
  • Estimated costs of administering and enforcing the Building Code Act by the Town of Oakville
  • Estimated costs of administering and enforcing the Planning Act by the Town of Oakville
  • Rationale for imposing or changing fees
This meeting will also include updating some existing building permit fees under section 7 of the Building Code Act, as well as under section 69(1) of the Planning Act to change existing fees for the processing of applications regarding planning matters. The 2024 rates and fees will be implemented upon Council approval.

The town’s Budget Committee will also be receiving the draft 2024 Operating and Capital Budgets prepared by staff for review based on Mayor’s direction.

2024 Budget: Key dates

  • October 17 and 19: Draft Operating and Capital budgets presented by staff based on Mayor’s direction, including draft rates and fees
  • October 20 to November 1: Budget Committee to consult with residents on draft budgets (Public consultation)
  • October 31 (morning) and November 1 (evening): Public delegations on draft budget (Public consultation)
  • November 2: Budget Committee makes recommendations to Mayor
  • November 20: Mayor to provide proposed 2024 Budget, including rates and fees, to Council and public
  • November 28: Public delegations on Mayor’s proposed budget. (Public consultation)
  • December 20: Special Council Meeting to consider approval of the 2024 Budget
