Help the town determine if the fireworks by-law requires updates
The Town of Oakville is reviewing its fireworks regulations to ensure alignment with community needs and is seeking residents’ input. In partnership with Forum Research Inc. the town is carrying out both an online and telephone questionnaire to gather resident feedback about the sale and use of fireworks within Oakville.

The online questionnaire is now open until June 21, 2024 and can be found on oakville.ca.
Telephone survey begins May 24
Residents aged 18 years or older may be contacted by a Forum Research telephone interviewer on behalf of the town starting May 24 through June 21. The telephone questionnaire will take about seven minutes to complete and will be confidential, anonymous, and voluntary.
Open houses on June 5 and 11
Members of the public can also provide feedback in person at one of two open houses:
- Wednesday, June 5 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (Black Box) 2305 Bridge Road, Oakville
- Tuesday, June 11 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall (South Atrium), 1225 Trafalgar Road, Oakville

Background
- The current Discharge of Fireworks By-law 2009-056 permits consumer or family fireworks for discharge between dusk and 11 p.m. on the day of, the day before, or the day after Victoria Day, Canada Day, New Year’s Day and any religious or cultural celebrations where fireworks are used to celebrate the religious or cultural event.
- Consumer/family fireworks may not be discharged in a manner that creates or may create a nuisance, an unsafe condition, danger from fire, risk from accident, injury, or damage at or in respect of any place, location or site, or to or in respect of any person, property or thing.
- Consumer/family fireworks may not be discharged on streets or in a park unless a permit has been issued for such purpose, by a person under 18 years of age, on land without the consent of the owner, into, inside of, or on any building, accessory building, structure or motor vehicle.
