Residents encouraged to stay indoors and avoid strenuous outdoor activities

Updated: July 16 at 11 a.m.

The Town is encouraging residents to stay indoors and be advised of outdoor program cancellations after Environment Canada issued an Orange Air Quality Warning for Oakville due to smoke from ongoing forest fires.

Outdoor programs and facilities

  • All Town-run outdoor recreation programs have been cancelled for the remainder of the day on Wednesday, July 15 and for Thursday July 16, including Super Playgrounds, Instructional Tennis and outdoor public swims and swimming lessons.
  • Outdoor summer camp activities will be moved indoors.
  • Outdoor pools are closed.

Credits will be issued to all registrants of cancelled classes or programs, and residents may cancel outdoor bookings for July 15 and 16 without penalty.

Indoor programming will proceed as scheduled, with most registered and drop-in programs occurring in air-conditioned facilities. Outdoor amenities, including sports fields, splash pads and courts, remain open and available for residents to use at their discretion. Residents are encouraged to pay attention to their bodies and participate at their own comfort level.

Summer Splash cancelled

The July 15 Summer Splash event at Wynten Park has been cancelled.

Due to the persistent nature of the air quality conditions, there are no further postponement dates for this location.

We hope to see you at future events at other locations!
