Town of Oakville Significant Weather Declaration beginning January 25, 2026

Saturday, January 24, 2026

The Town of Oakville has declared a Significant Weather Event with respect to the forecasted winter storm for Sunday, January 25, 2026. The Significant Weather Event declaration starts at 12 p.m. (noon) on January 25, 2026 and will continue until further notice.

This declaration suspends the Town’s standard timelines for winter maintenance service, allowing crews the flexibility to prioritize winter response activities due to the large amount of snow accumulation expected this weekend. Residents are asked to be patient and know that roads and sidewalks will be cleared as soon as possible.

A Significant Weather Event is a declaration by the Town to recognize that an approaching or active weather event has the potential to pose a significant threat to users of Town roadways, sidewalks, pathways and bike lanes. Community members are asked to monitor weather conditions and avoid unnecessary travel during inclement weather periods. Anyone using roads and sidewalks is advised to do so with extreme caution. Please drive according to road weather conditions and remember to leave room around snowplows and sidewalk clearing equipment.

Stay connected:

  • Visit oakville.ca and follow the Town’s social media channels (X, Instagram and Facebook)  for ongoing snow-clearing updates.
  • Status of facility operations and programming (open/closed) and more will be posted and updated on our service disruption page.
  • To stay up-to-date on our snow clearing operations, sign up for our e-Alerts.
  • Oakville Transit information is available on the Oakville Transit website.

Be a good neighbour - how you can help:

  • Crews will work 24/7 to clear snow during a significant snow event.
  • Parked vehicles on the roads can slow down the snow removal process. Park your car off the road whenever possible to help snowplows easily clear the roads.
  • Vehicles parking on the street (with permit or without permit) may be ticketed if they are obstructing snow clearing operations.
  • Don’t shovel snow from your driveway onto the road.
  • If you can, help to clear the snow from the sidewalk in front of your home/business to help pedestrians.
  • If you have a fire hydrant on your property, please help keep it clear of snow. Every second counts in an emergency.

During a Significant Weather Event, please give our teams time to finish clearing all routes and reach every area. Residents are asked to wait at 24 to 48 hours after the snow stops before contacting ServiceOakville with service requests.
