Parks and Open Space

Volunteers support the Urban Forest Health Monitoring program by helping observe and report on the condition of local trees and woodlands. Volunteers gain knowledge of urban forestry, environmental stewardship, and local ecosystems while contributing to the long-term monitoring and health of Oakville’s tree canopy and natural areas.

Help support the Town of Oakville's greenhouse operations by assisting staff with transplanting plants that contribute to floral displays and community spaces across Oakville. This volunteer opportunity provides hands-on experience in a greenhouse environment.

Minimum Commitment: Monday to Friday. Available shift times are: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (noon) and 12:30 to 3 p.m.

Season Length: 6 to 8 weeks, from March to April.

The Park Ambassador Program offers multiple opportunities to help care for Oakville's parks and trails by monitoring greenspaces, participating in litter cleanups, and supporting environmental stewardship initiatives.

Park Ambassador - Adopt a park or trail - Application closed

Park Ambassadors partner with the Town for a two-year term to help care for an adopted park or trail. This opportunity is ideal for groups and organizations looking to make a meaningful, long-term contribution to the health, cleanliness, and enjoyment of Oakville's green spaces.

Park and Trail Steward Volunteer

Park and Trail Stewards support community cleanup efforts in parks and along trails on an ongoing basis without being assigned to a specific location. This flexible volunteer opportunity is ideal for residents who want to give back to their community and for students seeking to complete high school community involvement hours.

One-Time Community Cleanup Volunteer

This opportunity is for residents, community groups, schools, businesses, or organizations that would like to participate in a one-time cleanup of a park, trail, creek, or natural area.

Recreation and Culture

Program Volunteers shadow staff in delivering engaging community-based programs while supporting participant inclusion, engagement, and positive program experiences. 

Volunteers can indicate their preferred community centre and area of interest and may support a variety of children and/or youth programs, including sports, dance, arts, and general interest programs. Responsibilities vary depending on the program and may include assisting with program activities, welcoming participants, and helping with program set-up and clean-up. 

Minimum Commitment: one shift (1 hour) per week.

Turn your interests into meaningful involvement by volunteering with our senior programs. 

Time Commitment: Available Monday to Friday during daytime hours.

Volunteers can share their skills, explore new interests, and gain valuable experience through a variety of opportunities, including:

  • Café services- Volunteers support the delivery of café services within older adult recreation programs by welcoming participants, serving refreshments, assisting with light setup and cleanup, and fostering a friendly, inclusive social environment. Minimum commitment: weekly commitment or occasional coverage (spare)
  • Program volunteer - alongside staff deliver engaging community-based programs that promote participant inclusion, engagement, and positive experiences. Opportunities may include programs such as Friendship Luncheon, where volunteers assist with welcoming participants, social interaction, client outreach calls, meal service, set-up, and clean-up. Minimum commitment: weekly commitment or occasional coverage (spare)
  • Receptionist - Volunteers support front desk and reception services by welcoming participants and visitors, providing program information, assisting with registrations and check-ins, answering basic inquiries, and helping maintain a friendly and organized environment. Minimum commitment: weekly commitment or occasional coverage (spare)
  • Drop-in convenors - Volunteers support older adult drop-in programs by welcoming participants, encouraging social interaction, assisting with activities, and helping create a friendly and inclusive atmosphere. Minimum commitment: weekly commitment
  • Special Events- Volunteers support the successful delivery of community events by welcoming attendees, providing information and directions, assisting with activities, supporting event setup and takedown, and helping ensure a positive experience for participants. Working alongside staff and community partners, volunteers contribute to creating safe, engaging, and memorable events for all attendees. Minimum Commitment: Opportunities are available throughout the year, with shifts scheduled based on event needs and volunteer availability.

Front-of-House Volunteers (16 and older): Help create a welcoming and enjoyable experience for Oakville Centre patrons. Working alongside staff, volunteers assist with greeting guests, distributing programs, providing directions, and supporting coat check services.

Minimum commitment: One shift per week (approximately 3.5 to 4 hours), with evening and weekend availability required.

Visitor Experience Volunteer

Volunteers assist museum staff with school programs, workshops, public programs, and special events on an as-needed basis. Opportunities are based on museum programming needs and volunteer availability. Volunteers help create engaging and welcoming experiences for visitors of all ages.

Oakville Santa Claus Parade Volunteers

Parade Day: Saturday November 14, 2026

Help bring holiday magic to the community! Volunteers (14+) support parade operations, assist spectators and participants, monitor the route alongside police and security personnel, and help with event setup and takedown. Volunteers play an important role in creating a safe, welcoming, and festive experience for everyone attending the parade.

Time commitment: 7:30 a.m. to approximately 11 a.m. 

Available Volunteer Roles:
  • Costume Character (14+) – Dress as a holiday character and engage with spectators along the route.
  • Costume Character Escort (16+) – Walk alongside characters during the parade to support participant safety and organization.
  • Marshal (16+) – Help monitor designated areas of the route, assisting with parade pace and provide information to participants and spectators.
