Voting Day is October 26
Candidates wishing to run for office in the 2026 Oakville Municipal Election can begin registering with the Town starting Friday, May 1, 2026. A list of offices open for nominations is available on the Elections section of our website.
Additional information including candidate qualifications, required nomination forms, and details on how to schedule an appointment with the Town Clerk to file a nomination can also be found on the website.
The term of elected office will be from November 15, 2026 to November 14, 2030.
Key highlights for candidates
- Must be a Canadian citizen 18 years of age or older, and live, own or rent property in the town, or be the spouse of an owner or renter.
- Nomination forms must be submitted in person with the Town Clerk’s Office at Town Hall from May 1 to August 20 during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and between 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on August 21.

Third-party advertisers can also begin registering with the Town starting May 1. A third-party advertiser is any individual, corporation or trade union that advertises to support or oppose a candidate.

- Must be a Canadian citizen 18 years of age or older, and live, own or rent property in the town, or be the spouse of an owner or renter.
- Visit Register to Vote to verify details, update address or add new eligible voters
- List of registered candidates will be made available on the town website to help voters make an informed choice.
- Voter notices will be mailed in early September, and voting will take place in person
- Advance voting will be held at select locations during October 7 to 10, and 13 to 18.
- On voting day, Monday October 26, voters can vote at any of the multiple locations available in the ward in which they live. Locations to be confirmed.
