Awards
Oakville’s commitment to excellence is consistently recognized across the country. Here are some of the achievements that made 2024 a standout year for our community.
The most livable community in Ontario
Oakville has been ranked the most livable community in Ontario and 10th in Canada in The Globe and Mail’s annual ‘Most Livable Cities’ study that assessed 448 municipalities across 10 categories. The rankings considered factors such as access to amenities, health care, and education, as well as the economy, climate, and safety.
Oakville ranks first in Canada for Culture Days – again!
In 2024, Oakville was again recognized in the Culture Days Top Participating Community List as the top overall participating community and, for the third year in a row, the top participating mid-sized community. As an Ontario Festival Hub, the town hosted more than 280 events that showcased local creators and encouraged participants to explore creativity, artistic expression and more.
Oakville facilities receive respected accessibility certifications
Last year, three Oakville facilities earned the prestigious Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification (RHFAC). The Sixteen Mile Community Centre and Library received RHFAC Gold, one of more than 100 sites in Canada to earn this distinction, while Trafalgar Park Community Centre and Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre also received certifications for their commitment to accessible design for all.
Oakville Trafalgar Community Centre achieves LEED Gold
The Oakville Trafalgar Community Centre earned LEED Gold certification for its energy-efficient design, sustainable features, and commitment to environmental excellence. The award highlights the Centre's contribution to advancing the town’s climate goals and fostering a sustainable community.
Fire Department leaders honoured with prestigious awards
Oakville Fire Chief Paul Boissonneault was honoured with three prestigious national awards for his leadership in fire safety and emergency services, receiving the King Charles III Coronation Medal, Career Fire Chief of the Year Award, and Executive Chief Fire Officer designation from the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs.
Deputy Fire Chief Kalpana Rajgopalan was also awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal for her exceptional contributions to public safety and emergency management. Congratulations to both recipients!
Corporate Communications wins three awards for new town website
The communications campaigns supporting the launch of the new oakville.ca website earned three prestigious awards from the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS). This included the National Award of Excellence - Canadian Digital Communications Campaign of the Year (Bronze), Pinnacle Awards - Digital Communications (Gold), and Product or Service Launch (Gold). The awards recognizes cutting-edge digital communications that successfully connect with the target audiences to engage communities.
