As part of the Town of Oakville’s ongoing Official Plan Review, the land use designations and policies that apply to Bronte Village have been updated.
Bronte Village is intended to be revitalized as a mixed-use area with a thriving commercial area and a variety of housing options that provide a year-round environment for residents, employees, and visitors.
In December 2017, Council passed By-law 2017-118 to adopt Official Plan Amendment 18 (OPA 18: Bronte Village) to the Livable Oakville Plan. OPA 18 was then approved by Halton Region and it came into effect on June 20, 2018.
Community Planning Permit System in Bronte Village
With Mayoral direction (pdf), staff are developing a Community Planning Permit (CPP) By-law for Bronte Village. The intent is to streamline development approvals, support mixed-use intensification and implement the policy and urban design directions of the Livable Oakville Plan.
The project is aligned with the ongoing effort to prepare a draft CPP By-law that would apply to lands in Midtown Oakville and Bronte Village. The specific provisions of this CPP By-law will help achieve the established vision, goal and objectives for Bronte Village.
The Town has retained Dillon Consulting to carry out the project in five phases:
- Phase 1 (July) Project kick-off and data collection
- Phase 2 (July - August) Background analysis and framework development
- Phase 3 (September) Preliminary draft CPP By-law
- Phase 4 (October) Public release of draft CPP By-law
- Phase 5 (November – December) Refine draft CPP By-law and seek approval
The initial phases are complete, and work has advanced to prepare the draft CPP By-law with specific provisions to guide development in Bronte Village. Prior to passing the CPP By-law, the Town is required to update its Official Plan. As such, a draft Official Plan Amendment is being prepared to designate Bronte Village as a CPP area.
