Emergency Preparedness

Emergencies can happen at any time and your best defence is being prepared.

Some risks in Oakville include:

  • Wind storms and tornadoes
  • Winter storms
  • Thunderstorms and lightning
  • Flooding
  • Power outages

Visit the Halton Region Community Hazards web page for more details on hazards in our area.

Make your emergency plan

Your emergency plan needs to include:

Have at least a 72-hour (three-day) supply of food, water and other essentials (like medication) for each member of your household. Check your supplies twice a year and replace items that are expired or missing.

Visit the Halton Region Preparing for Emergencies web page for tips on how to pack your kit.

You and your family need to know what to do if an emergency happens, especially if you are not together.

People with special needs such as young children, elderly family members, persons with disabilities or persons with chronic illnesses may require special care.

Visit the Halton Region Preparing for Emergencies web page for tips on how to plan for all people in your home or workplace during an emergency.

Make sure you also have enough food and water stored at home to feed your pets for 72-hours.

Identify a family member at home in charge of evacuating pets and service animals. In certain emergencies, you may need to evacuate without your pets. Have plans to stay with family, friends or pet-friendly hotels.

Make sure pets and service animals have their identification tags and documents.

Visit the Halton Region Preparing for Emergencies web page for tips on how to plan for animals in your care during an emergency.
