Oakville Museum Strategic Plan

The Oakville Museum is drafting a new strategic plan to guide our vision, priorities, and goals for the coming years. The strategic plan represents an important moment for the Oakville Museum as we look ahead to shape our future. Built through thoughtful reflection and community input, the plan will guide how the museum serves, inspires, and connects with the Oakville community.

Shaping The Future Of The Oakville Museum: Background Information

Complete The Survey

At the public open house on March 25, a 15-minute presentation highlighted the Oakville Museum's strategic direction for the next five years. Grounded in community engagement, staff input, and public survey feedback, the presentation reflected a shared vision of the museum, preserving Oakville's history while evolving to meet the needs of a diverse and growing community.

The presentation began by reaffirming the museum's core purpose: to connect people with Oakville's stories through meaningful, inclusive, and engaging experiences. It emphasized the museum's strengths, including high-quality exhibitions, impactful programs, and strong community partnerships that foster lifelong connections to local history.

Key themes from engagement sessions were highlighted throughout, including the need to expand awareness, enhance digital accessibility, and deepen community connections. The presentation also identified opportunities to reach broader audiences through programming, hands-on experiences, and outreach initiatives that bring the museum beyond a physical site.

There was a strong focus on storytelling, and the stories that the Oakville Museum is telling and will tell. Amplifying underrepresented voices, including Indigenous, Black, and diverse cultural communities, in addition to capturing contemporary and intergenerational stories. The museum's role as a "cultural hub" was also explored, with hopes to use the beautiful grounds and waterfront views in events, performances, and outdoor programming.

Finally, the presentation highlighted the strategic goals and actions the Oakville Museum is hoping to move forward with. These include strengthening marketing and digital presence, expanding partnerships, enhancing visitor experiences, and addressing capacity challenges. These priorities will position the Oakville Museum to continue to grow its impact, increase visibility, and remain a dynamic and inclusive space for community connection.
