Mayor's statement on 2025 Annual Report

Oakville continued to demonstrate strong leadership and steady progress in 2025. This Annual Report highlights the actions we took to guide responsible growth, strengthen community belonging, advance environmental sustainability and uphold accountable government.

Council advanced important planning initiatives to support our long-term vision, including approving the updated Transportation Master Plan, adopting the Midtown Official Plan Amendment (OPA 70), endorsing key directions for Midtown’s first Community Planning Permit By-law, and aligning our Official Plan with new provincial legislation. We also continued to support housing supply and affordability and approved an updated Economic Development Plan to strengthen Oakville’s position as a competitive and resilient community.

Community belonging remained central to our work through initiatives like the free Care-A-Van service, Community Activation Grants, and recognition of youth and volunteer leaders. Investments in public spaces and infrastructure continued to enhance neighbourhood livability, including upgrades to Iroquois Ridge, Oakville Trafalgar, and Glen Abbey community centres and the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, the revitalization of Bronte Beach, road resurfacing, improvements, storm sewer replacements, and active transportation enhancements.

Environmental stewardship also progressed, with expansion of Oakville Transit’s electric bus fleet, and approval of a dedicated stormwater funding structure to strengthen long-term resilience.  There was also significant tree planting across the community with nearly 60,000 trees and shrubs planted throughout the year, reinforcing Oakville’s commitment to environmental sustainability and long-term resilience.

The update on the 2023–2026 Council Strategic Action Plan provided transparency on progress across infrastructure, sustainability, governance and community services. Maintaining one of the lowest property tax increases among neighbouring municipalities reflects Council’s commitment to fiscal responsibility while continuing to deliver high-quality services.

Oakville’s excellence continued to be recognized beyond our borders. The Town was ranked among Canada’s top locations for investment, received provincial funding for exceeding housing targets and stormwater improvements, and once again ranked first in Canada for Culture Days participation.

Thank you to members of Council, Town staff and our community partners for their dedication and collaboration. Together, we are building a town that remains vibrant, resilient and prepared for the future.
