Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery Culvert Replacement

Design work is currently underway to replace an existing driveway culvert that recently washed out during heavy rainfall in the summer of 2024. The culvert is located at the North Park Loop of Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery, across a tributary of Sixtle Cree.  

The anticipated design will include: 

• Replacing the existing CSP culvert with a new concrete box culvert 
• Reconstructing the channel using natural design elements 
• Rehabilitating the existing stormwater outlet 
• Removing and replanting trees to accommodate the works 

Due to the deteriorating condition of the existing culvert and the risk of further collapse or blockage prior to the start of construction, interim stabilization work was completed in September 2025. This included removal of the collapsed culvert and associated debris, followed by stabilization of the area using salvaged stone. These measures were undertaken to prepare the site for full culvert replacement, scheduled for summer 2027. 

Expected project timeline

• Detailed design completion – Winter/Spring 2026
• Construction begins – Summer 2027 (subject to weather)
