Keep parks clean and green
Residents and visitors are encouraged to dispose of household waste responsibly and not use the bins in Oakville’s parks.
Why it matters
- Disposing of household waste in our parks violates the Parks By-law 2013-013.
- Parks bins are for small, “on-the-go” waste only. Household garbage can overflow containers, attract wildlife, and harm local ecosystems.
- Yard waste, such as sod, soil, and lawn clippings, can introduce invasive species and attract wildlife, such as rodents and coyotes.
- Water from downspouts and pools can damage trails, contaminate waterways, and cause flooding and erosion of soil and trails if drained onto parkland. Learn how to properly drain water from your property.
Use Regional waste programs
There are convenient options for collection of garbage, recycling, composting, and special items, such as batteries, paints, electronics, etc., in Halton. Use the Region’s ‘Put Waste In Its Place’ sorting tool for more details. Learn more about Halton Region waste and recycling collection services.
