Sport Development Grant

Funding for eligible non-profit sport organizations to support coaching training and development, program development, enhancement, expansion and sustainability.

The Town of Oakville supports the growth and development of local sport. The Sport Development Grant offers eligible non‑profit organizations funding to help start new programs, expand or improve existing ones, and support coach training. The grant is funded by the Town of Oakville and administered in partnership with Sport Oakville.

Eligibility

  • Incorporated non-profit organization 
  • Provide sport programs that are accessible and inclusive to the Oakville community

Funding priorities

The 2026 Sport Development Grant funding priorities include:

  1. Coaching training and development
  2. Program development, enhancement and expansion
  3. Sustaining existing  programs or initiatives

Proposals with clear, measurable outcomes that strengthen community sport in Oakville will be given priority. Examples of eligible projects include:

  • Training for administrators, coaches, officials, referees, or judges (e.g., NCCP, HIGH FIVE®) 
  • Creating new inclusive sport programs or expanding existing ones to improve community access
  • Volunteer training and development
  • Developing program resources

Equipment requests must directly support the sport or program. Proposals that do not clearly link equipment to the funding priorities will not be considered. The Town of Oakville may audit how grant recipients use their awarded funds.

Any expenses required for the general operation and administration of an organization are ineligible. Some examples include: 

  • Computers and other office or administration equipment including office supplies
  • Office related expenses such as rent, utilities, etc.
  • Advertising, promotions or printing
  • Licensing fees, officials’ fees, incorporation fees, or association fees
  • Fees to pay for police or security checks, tournaments, banquets or facilities
  • Uniforms, awards or trophies
  • Travel, meals, entertainment or accommodation costs
  • Salaries, consultant fees or insurance
  • General program equipment not associated with funding priorities

Applications will be accepted online by completing the Sport Development Grant form. If you need another way to apply, please contact us for help. 

  • Applications open: April 15, 2026
  • Applications close: May 31, 2026
  • Assessment period: June 2026
  • Grants awarded by July 31, 2026

Assessment

  • Applications are collected by the Town of Oakville and reviewed by the Sport Oakville board, with assistance from Town of Oakville staff. 
  • Proposals are evaluated against the criteria and priorities in these guidelines.
  • Recommendations are provided to the Town of Oakville for approval. 
  • Proposals that will receive financial support are notified in writing.
