Khalsa Gate/Old Bronte Road Streetscape Urbanization

The Town of Oakville is reconstructing Khalsa Gate and Old Bronte Road to improve roadway, drainage, pedestrian and cycling infrastructure.

About the project

The Town of Oakville is completing the detailed design for the reconstruction of Khalsa Gate and Old Bronte Road in Palermo Village. The project will upgrade the existing rural roadway to an urban cross-section and improve transportation, drainage, pedestrian and cycling facilities within the corridor.

Project location

Khalsa Gate and Old Bronte Road, from Dundas Street West to the south end of the Khalsa Gate cul-de-sac, approximately 885 metres.

Project scope

The proposed improvements include:

  • Full reconstruction of the existing two-lane roadway
  • New curbs, sidewalks and on-road cycling facilities
  • On-street parking in designated areas
  • Storm sewer and drainage improvements
  • Street lighting and streetscape improvements
  • New street trees and landscaping
  • Reconstruction of affected driveways and boulevards

Project status

The project is currently in the detailed design stage. The Town is updating the design and base information and coordinating with utilities, agencies, adjacent property owners and internal departments. Tender documents and required approvals will be completed before construction begins.

Expected project timeline

  • Detailed design and approvals: Ongoing through 2026
  • Tendering and construction: Anticipated in 2027, subject to completion of the design, approvals, utility coordination and procurement
  • Substantial completion: Targeted by March 31, 2028

The schedule is preliminary and may be updated as the design and approvals progress.

Completed work

Preliminary engineering, technical studies, and most of the detailed design have been completed. The Town has also undertaken stakeholder consultation and utility coordination. Updated survey information and final design revisions are now being completed to advance the project toward tender and construction.
