About this project
As part of the Town of Oakville’s annual capital replacement program, seven of Oakville’s playgrounds are being revitalized to improve accessibility and user experience across all parks.
Each new playground will incorporate inclusive play elements and accessible features such as playground ramps and surfacing. The scope and timeline of each project will vary, with completion of the parks occurring in 2026.
Accessibility standards
Each of the revitalized playgrounds will align with the legislative requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), 2005, and the Town's commitment to continuing to improve accessibility to Town services and facilities.
In addition to the AODA, we utilize the following design standards and guidelines:
- Design of Public Spaces Standard for the built environment, and
- Canadian Standards Association, CAN/CSA Z164 (Children’s Playspaces and Equipment Standard), including Annex ‘H’.
These standards and guidelines help establish a minimum accessibility requirement for all newly constructed play spaces as well as any renovations and retrofits that need to take place on existing playgrounds.
