Ward 1 Southeast Campus of Parks Study

Background

The Town of Oakville's parkland system is comprised of community parks, neighbourhood parks, parkettes, trails and open spaces that together form an interconnected network supporting recreation, community gathering, active transportation and access to nature. 

The Ward 1 Southeast Parks System Study will examine part of the Town’s network as a connected "campus of parks," assessing how existing parks, amenities and open spaces collectively serve the community. 

The study will identify service gaps and opportunities for improvement and develop recommendations to enhance connectivity, accessibility, recreational experiences and overall levels of service throughout the study area.

The study boundary area includes south of the QEW to Lake Ontario, between Bronte Road and Third Line.

Project goals and objectives

Goals

  • Improve and enhance the parks and open space system within the southeast area of Ward 1;
  • Improve the level of service to residents living in the southeast area of Ward 1; and
  • Develop a plan through extensive public engagement and feedback that is compatible with and in support of the Parks, Recreation and Library Master Plan (2024).

Objectives

  • Develop a strategic plan to guide the future planning and development of park amenities and programming;
  • Develop a comprehensive, fair, open and transparent public consultation program for future parks improvements;
  • Understand the current needs within the community;
  • Gather key information for the future planning of local park improvements that would maximize level of service for the community;
  • Create a diversity of park elements within Oakville’s ‘campus of parks’ while ensuring connectivity and response to growing community needs; and
  • Maintain a level of open parkland space as a valuable resource and to meet growing demand.

The Ward 1 Southeast Parks System Study will be completed in several phases. Timelines are tentative and subject to change. Additional details for public engagement opportunities will be provided once confirmed.

  • Phase 1: Public survey, September 28 to October 16, 2026.
  • Phase 2: Public meeting 1 feedback period, November 2026.
  • Phase 3: Public meeting 2 study findings and results, January/February 2027.
  • Phase 4: Implementation of study recommendations, based on approval through the capital budget process.

Through this survey, we are seeking input from residents and park users about how they currently use the parks in the study area, what they value most, and what changes or additions would help make these spaces more welcoming, accessible and enjoyable. 

Your feedback will help guide recommendations and ensure Oakville’s parks evolve to reflect the needs and priorities of the local community.
