About the study
The Town of Oakville has initiated a Housing Needs Assessment study that will help inform policies and programs to create affordable housing. The data collected and analysis undertaken will help identify current and future housing needs and address housing gaps in the current and projected housing supply.
This study will also be crucial in developing various aspects of housing policies, programs and advocacy, including:
- Inclusionary Zoning policies and by-law for lands within protected Major Transit Stations Areas (MTSA) like Midtown Oakville and the Bronte GO MTSA.
- Community Improvement Plan that may incentivize the development of affordable housing
- Official Plan housing policies, updates and amendments
- Community Planning Permit by-law provisions for a more collaborative and streamlined approvals system within the Community Planning Permit area, and
- Strengthen advocacy efforts to be eligible for Federal funding programs such as the Canada Community Building Fund.
Get involved
Starting in fall 2024, the town will consult with the housing development industry, including community groups/service providers, not-for-profit housing operators, business community, and real estate industry representatives.
Three focus group sessions are being planned to understand housing needs and policy and/or regulatory measures to address the needs.
