Property tax relief applications for sickness or extreme poverty must be filed directly to the Assessment Review Board (ARB) for review and decision by an ARB Chair, as delegated by Oakville Council.

Information and eligibility for Tax Relief Due to Sickness or Extreme Poverty can be found on the Assessment Review Board’s website.

The ARB will review your application and supporting documentation and will schedule a meeting with you to determine an outcome for entitlement of a reduction, or cancellation of property tax and the actual tax adjustment amount.

For each tax year, a completed application is required by the legislated deadline of the end of February for the year of application (for example, an application for the 2026 tax year must be received by the ARB by the end of February 2027).

To file an application with the ARB, please visit Tribunals Ontario's Filing an Appeal page.
