Street sweeping
The town's Roads and Works department is responsible for sweeping curb and bike lanes, on both town and regional roads.
Benefits of street sweeping include:
- Enhances the safety of drivers on the road.
- Maintains cleanliness in our bike lanes, ensuring the safety of cyclists.
- Gives Oakville a clean aesthetic appearance.
- Contributes positively to the environment.
- Preserves infrastructure integrity while ensuring effective drainage.
Street sweeping begins in April and takes approximately eight to 10 weeks to complete all roads and bike lanes. After the initial cleaning, street sweeping continues throughout the summer and continues until the end of our Loose Leaf Collection program.
Our Roads and Works department operates three full-time sweepers on two shifts:
- Day shift: 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Afternoon shift: 2 to 10:30 p.m.
Levels of service and completion
The town is responsible for sweeping regional roads, main roads, 35 residential sweeping zones and the roads in Oakville’s three local Business Improvement Areas (BIAs).
- Regional and town main roads are swept three times per year.
- Residential roads are swept twice per year.
- BIA roads are swept weekly from May to October.
- Do not park vehicles on the road.
- Do not blow or rake leaves or grass clippings onto the roadway.
- Ensure vehicles do not overhang onto the road.
- Keep basketball or hockey nets off the road and away from the edge of the curb.
- Ensure waste containers are not placed on the road.
Your help ensures road sweepers can efficiently clean and maintain our town.
If you live in a new subdivision that is still under construction, it is the responsibility of the developer to keep the roads clean. Please contact ServiceOakville if you have any concerns with your new subdivision.
