Project overview
The Town of Oakville is planning active transportation improvements along Lakeshore Road East between Allan Street and Winston Churchill Boulevard to enhance transportation options within the community and support healthy, active lifestyles for residents and visitors.
A feasibility assessment has been completed to evaluate and identify appropriate cycling facilities for this portion of Lakeshore Road East.
A Public Information Centre will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the South Atrium in Oakville Town Hall.
The session will present the recommended active transportation improvements for Lakeshore Road East.
All members of the community are invited to share comments and provide feedback.
Project area
The project area includes Lakeshore Road East between Allan Street and Winston Churchill Boulevard.
Assessment recommendations
The assessment initially recommended a multi-use path on one side of Lakeshore Road East, along with on-street bike lanes on both sides. However, this option would require removing the centre two-way left-turn lane. Due to current Provincial legislation (Ontario Bill 60), which limits reducing vehicle lanes, this approach cannot be pursued.
As a result, the preferred solution is to implement a continuous multi-use path along the full length of the study area.
As part of the implementation of this project, a continuous multi-use path is proposed for the south side of Lakeshore Road East from Allan Street to Maple Grove Drive, and on the north side of Lakeshore Road East from Maple Grove Drive to Devon Road/Chancery Lane East, and on the south side from Devon Road /Chancery Lane East to Winston Churchill Boulevard.
Controlled pedestrian crossings are currently provided where the MUP transitions between north and south side of Lakeshore Road East.
A new sidewalk segment will also be constructed on the south side of Lakeshore Road East, between Maple Grove Drive to west of Ford Drive/Kingsford Place.
